Introduction to Improv

​

This fun class is designed for intermediate to advanced players on MOST instruments.  Venture into Jazz and blues starting with the very basics of improvisation.  NO FEAR, no experience is necessary in improvisation!!  We'll get you started with simple songs you already know and you will learn how to make them unique in YOUR OWN WAY!

Followed by a special event including workshops and a performance with a professional rhythm section.

Alexander Kelsh (b. 1999) is a saxophonist, arranger, and composer with a focus on acoustic jazz who has performed concerts across the state of Washington. He was born and raised in Bellingham, WA, and studied with Western Washington University Jazz studies professor Kevin Woods. In September of 2018, Kelsh began school at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in Tacoma, WA, where he currently studies with Dr Cassio Vianna and Dr Robert Miller, both who have a long history working in jazz academia and performance. Kelsh will graduate in Spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Musical Arts Degree and political science minor. After graduating from PLU, Kelsh intends to pursue a master's degree in jazz studies. Kelsh hopes to one day start an international jazz education program in order to bring jazz to countries where it is not taught.
